Beyond the Hype: AI’s Practical Impact on Great Lakes Shipping

From data analysis to operational decision‑making, AI is entering the marine sector in practical and unexpected ways. This presentation provides a high-level introduction to AI, real world examples of its use today, and a balanced look at the opportunities and challenges ahead for Great Lakes shipping.

Tickets are sold on a “first come – first sold” basis, so please book early to avoid disappointment.

GUEST SPEAKER:   Rohit Shanker, CEO, Naryant

Rohit Shanker is a professional engineer and the CEO of Naryant, a Canadian data, software, and AI engineering firm that works directly inside complex, real-world operations—ports, fleets, infrastructure, and industrial systems.

With over 25 years of experience spanning electrical engineering, data platforms, analytics, and applied AI, Rohit focuses on the practical question most operators care about: how technology actually changes decisions, workflows, and outcomes on the ground. His work bridges strategy and execution, helping organizations move from fragmented data to operational intelligence that can be trusted in time-critical environments.

Through Naryant’s work across transportation, logistics, energy, and government, Rohit has led initiatives that connect data from vehicles, vessels, sensors, and enterprise systems into decision-support tools used by operators, managers, and executives—not as abstract    dashboards, but as living systems embedded into daily operations.

In the marine and Great Lakes context, his focus is on how AI can support safer and more predictable operations, better asset utilization, workforce resilience, regulatory readiness, and long-term competitiveness, while also being clear-eyed about the risks, limitations, and organizational changes required to use AI responsibly.

Rohit is known for a plain-spoken, engineering-first approach to AI—cutting through hype to explain what is already working, what is coming next, and what marine leaders should realistically prepare for over the next 3–5 years.
