Former CTV and TSN sportscaster Rod Black’s knowledge, versatility, and enthusiasm have earned him a reputation as one of Canada’s most recognized and distinguished sportscasters.

As the voice of figure skating in Canada, Rod also covers all the drama and excitement as commentator for CTV and TSN’s figure skating coverage. Rod was part of the London Summer Olympics broadcast team calling gymnastics. He pulled double duty at the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games, calling figure skating, and short-track speed skating. Black has also covered the 2002 Winter Games in Salt Lake City, the 1994 Winter Games in Lillehammer and the 1992 Summer Games
in Barcelona.
Rod’s broadcasting abilities aren’t limited to the sports world. The adaptable broadcaster is the former co-host of CTV’s Canada AM – Canada’s most-watched national morning show. The five-time Gemini Award nominee as Canada’s Best Sportscaster is also the host/narrator of a variety of prime time specials and the honorary spokesperson for Plan Canada.
After concluding a remarkable career with TSN, Rod now serves as a sports commentator, brand ambassador, and host for NorthStar Gaming.
The “Gangway” cash bar, located in “The Ontario Room” will be open from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Members and Guests are to be seated in the Canadian Room by 6:45 p.m. to receive Head Table Guests, the Silver Oar of the Admiralty, and the Service Ensigns.

Hotel reservations are to be made directly with the Fairmont Royal York Hotel. The Fairmont Royal York Hotel has established a special room rate for Marine Club members and guests wishing to stay at the hotel. The cost of rooms start at $260.00 per night, single or double occupancy with limited availability. Note that all elevators in the Fairmont Royal York Hotel now require a room key to operate, this will include obtaining access to the hospitality suites, please ensure you bring your room key with you.
Tickets:
All tables are set for ten (10) people. All ticket requests must include a ticket order form. Please contact Gina Delle Rose-Ash with your ticket orders, gdelleroseash@hopaports.ca. Payments can be made by credit card, online and by cheque. Cheques are to be made payable to “The Marine Club”. Gina will direct your payment options accordingly.
Members are encouraged to submit their ticket requests prior to December 20th, 2024, as the table(s) will be assigned immediately thereafter. Tickets and table assignments after December 20th will be subject to remaining availability.
Requests for tickets will not be accepted by telephone and tickets are not available at the door. Ticket refunds will not be granted after December 20th, 2024.
Notice to Members: Nomination committee report for 2025-2026 will be distributed in late November.
The Marine Club will no longer be mailing out paper tickets for the Annual Dinner. Table assignments will be communicated by email and as such, an email address for all ticket purchases is required. Table assignments will also be posted at the entrance to the Canadian Room.
Health and Safety
The Marine Club and the Fairmont Royal York Hotel will follow all current provincial and municipal public health guidelines.
Wine orders
All wine orders must be sent to The Marine Club along with ticket order form. The Royal York Hotel will NOT be managing any wine pre-orders.
Food Allergies:
Please note that if you or your guests have a food allergy requiring a special meal, please indicate on your ticket order form and/or when making payment online.
The majority of the event’s proceeds will be contributed to The Marine Club’s “Good Works Program”.
